You are the Problem (and the Solution)
By Tim Bentum | November 5th
Do you have issues in your school that you have a hard time solving? If you do, read on. Many times, I have found that these issues are wrapped up in people—other people. These people don’t think the same way that you do. However, if you catch yourself returning to a line of thinking that ends in some form of blame, you owe it to yourself and your school to try to break this cycle. Just remember: You (the leader) are the problem (and the solution). You may want to stop reading at this point, I don’t blame you. I don’t really want to read what I write either, but the truth remains the truth whether or not we like it, so here goes. In no particular order, here are some thoughts on leaders taking responsibility first:
“If you have taken on a leadership role, you have forfeited the right to make excuses.” – Horst Schultze
“Search me (not others; parentheses added), O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” – Psalm 139: 23-24
“Real leaders go first. They never ask others to do what they have not done or are unwilling to do themselves.” – Michael Hyatt
“The law of the lid tells us that the leader’s lid, his or her maximum ability to lead, will determine the potential of his or her team.” – John Maxwell
